ORCA Swimming Club has over 100 active swimmers ranging from 8 years old upwards. All training sessions are delivered by qualified Swim England coaches. We are proud to be an accredited SwimMark club.
Attending a Trial
Do you offer a trial swim?
Yes, you must attend a trial before you can be considered for club membership.
The swimmer will be assessed by either the Head Coach or Deputy Head Coach and usually lasts 30 mins.
Do I need to pre book?
Yes, you need to arrange a trial session please complete the form below.
At the moment we are offering trials during the Saturday sessions, the pool is quieter on this day. A busy pool can be a little intimidating for a new swimmer.
Is there a wait list?
At present, there is no waiting list, but this could change. You will be advised if there is a waiting list.
Do you take beginners?
Sadly, no. ORCA is a competitive swimming club and is the next step up on the swimming journey after attending swim lessons. We would emphasise that the swimmer should be swimming in OCL purple hats as the bare minimum.
Consideration Criteria
- Streamlined push & glide both front and back
- Tumble turns (somersault at the end of the lane)
- 25m butterfly = 1 length
- 50m breaststroke = 2 lengths
- 100m backstroke = 4 lengths
- 100m freestyle/front crawl = 4 lengths
What should I wear?
You should attend the swim trial with a swimming costume/trunks whilst in the pool. Please also bring a swim hat (if you have one), goggles and full water bottle and only if you have them, kickboard, pull buoy and fins.
How much are membership/swim fees?
This information is available here – https://orcaswimming.club/training-fees
I have a disability, can I take part?
Yes – swimming is accessible to everyone, and whilst we will try to accommodate everyone, the joining criteria will still apply. To discuss your specific requirements/needs, please contact our Head Coach.
Can I bring someone to watch/wait for me?
Yes. We encourage parents/carers to be present in the spectator area. The coach will want to have a follow up chat at the end of the swim trial. A parent/carer must always be present to collect swimmers under 14yrs old at the end of training sessions.
Is there car parking?
Yes. There is a free car park at Royton Leisure Centre.
Where can we purchase kit?
ALL swimmers are supplied with a FREE club branded hat upon joining the club and this should be requested from a coach during your first week of training.
Other kit needed can be obtained for a reasonable price from Decathlon.
